Permanent, Semi-Permanent
and Temporary Retaining Walls
Seawalls, Dams, Harbor Works and Piers
The Doublewal system, consisting of precast modules, can be constructed in a river or harbor without dewatering. Doublewal is particularly effective for tide sensitive construction, as the modules can be set, filled and the wall backfilled between tides. To achieve the large mass sometimes required for a seawall, the Doublewal modules may be filled with concrete.
Since the Doublewal modules are precast, they can serve as concrete forms and protect the fresh concrete from the oncoming tide or the river flow while expediting the construction and backfill. These walls should be set upon an appropriately designed foundation which must be protected against scour and high tractive forces. To overcome the effects of fluctuating water levels, the Doublewal modules are filled with screened or crushed stone to the elevation of high water with filter fabric covering the vertical joints.
Doublewal modules are effective in forming dikes, whether for permanent or temporary use. They offer a much more efficient and economical solution than the age old "sand bag."
Noise Barrier Walls
Specially designed Doublewal modules are being used effectively as noise barriers. A full scale measurement study of barrier attenuation showed Doublewal achieved a "minimum" of 20dBA reduction, and an unbelievable high of 35dBA. The Doublewal Noise Barrier has the inherent structural capability to be designed to meet either federal or local codes on wind loading.
Poor Soil Conditions
When unfavorable subsurface conditions exist at a site and piles are required, the Doublewal solution is also an economical alternative to the concrete poured-in-place type of wall. Doublewal can be constructed upon smaller footings and less piles.
Unique Designs
Doublewal can also be constructed around curves, either as a series of chords or by special modules,
and may turn angles in any wall. Doublewal applications include:
- all forms of retaining walls along highways, railroads and building sites
- bridge abutments
- wingwalls
- flood control channels
- check dams
|
- canal walls
- seawalls
- blast walls
- tank farm dikes
- coal slot storage facilities
- and many others.
